Title
Calling for the Streets and Services Committee to hold public hearings on the problem of short dumping in Philadelphia and the development of strategies to address this problem.
Body
WHEREAS, In almost every City neighborhood, unsightly piles of trash and debris are left on vacant lots or on street corners; and

WHEREAS, This trash is not only aesthetically unappealing but poses significant health and safety concerns for residents and businesses alike; and

WHEREAS, Short dumping only perpetuates decay and decline in our neighborhoods; and

WHEREAS, For those people who wish to dump trash in an appropriate manner, the City does not make dumpsites accessible, thereby leading to more illegal dumping on our streets, lots and sidewalks; and

WHEREAS, Short dumping of tires resulted in one of the most devastating fires in the history of Philadelphia, costing millions of dollars in repairs to I-95, destruction of property and disruption to the lives of our citizens; now therefore

RESOLVED, BY THE COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF PHILADELPHIA, That the Committee on Streets and Services hold public hearings to discuss the problems of short dumping and develop strategies to address the problem.
