Title
Authorizing City Council's Committee on Labor and Civil Service to hold hearings on ways to encourage Internet and other e-commerce related businesses to locate to the City of Philadelphia.
Body
WHEREAS, Internet and “e-commerce” businesses have become the fastest growing sector of the American economy; and
 
WHEREAS, Philadelphia is a national hub of transportation, education and other unique resources; and
 
WHEREAS, Philadelphia has borne the brunt of national loss in manufacturing jobs over the past forty years; and
 
WHEREAS, Philadelphia has not been as successful as other Northeastern cities in attracting Internet and “e-commerce businesses”; and
 
      WHEREAS, Many the City's suburban municipalities have benefited greatly from these businesses locating to their area; and
 
      WHEREAS, Philadelphia's hub of institutions of higher education and medical research are world renown and create a unique opportunity growth in technology intensive industries; now therefore
 
BE IT RESOLVED, That City  Council's Committee on Labor and Civil Service is authorized to hold hearings on ways to encourage Internet and other e-commerce related businesses to locate to the City of Philadelphia.
