Recognizing March 1 - 7, 2026, during Women's History Month, as Women in Construction (WIC) Week in the City of Philadelphia

WHEREAS, Women in Construction (WIC) Week was created by the National Association of Women in Construction (NAWIC), to highlight women as a viable component of the construction industry and emphasize the growing role of women in the industry. NAWIC has been a nationwide leader in advocacy for WIC since 1960. Their goal through WIC Week is to amplify, educate, and inspire current and future generations of women to join and excel in the construction trades; and
WHEREAS, Women in Nontraditional Careers (WINC) is a multi-stakeholder regional collaboration led by Philadelphia Works that includes community colleges, apprenticeship and training programs, employers, industry and union representatives, non-profit and governmental agencies, and most importantly, women working in manufacturing, construction, utilities and transit; and
WHEREAS, The Philadelphia Chapter of Professional Women in Construction (PWC) was formed in 2018 to provide a platform to connect and engage across the construction industry, expanding the business network and career opportunities of women in construction across the greater Philadelphia area; and
WHEREAS, National Association of Black Women in Construction (NABWIC) helps build lasting partnerships with top organizations to create productive solutions for Black women in their respective construction fields. Their advocacy for Black women-owned construction makes them an immensely impactful partner in the construction space; and
WHEREAS, The Philadelphia Council AFL-CIO fights for social and economic justice for all working people in Philadelphia. The Council is comprised of over 100 local labor unions, representing more than 150,000 workers employed in building and construction trades, public, and private sectors.
