Honoring City, State, Labor and Production officials for their efforts to keep the Real World in Philadelphia.

WHEREAS, The Real World is a pioneering MTV reality television show that pits seven strangers together in different locales across the globe; and
WHEREAS, Taping of the Real World is set to begin on April 10, 2004; and
WHEREAS, The Greater Philadelphia Film Office had lobbied Bunim / Murray Productions to locate the show in Philadelphia since 1999; and
WHEREAS, The February 26th announcement that the show would locate in Philadelphia was met with great fanfare and excitement; and
WHEREAS, Continuing struggles led the show to announce on March 16, 2004 that they were leaving Philadelphia; and
WHEREAS, The announcement was met with both disappointment and resolve on the part of the citizens and civic leaders of Philadelphia; and
WHEREAS, As a result of negotiations led by Mayor John F. Street, John Dougherty, Congressman Robert Brady, Governor Rendell, officials of the show, and as a result of the advocacy of Young Involved Philadelphia and Campus Philly, the Real World will return to Philadelphia; now therefore
RESOLVED, BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF PHILADELPHIA, That we honor Bunim/Murray Productions on their decision to film the Real World in Philadelphia; and
FURTHER RESOLVED, That we honor all of the participants who assisted in bringing the Real World to Philadelphia; and
RESOLVED FURTHER, That an Engrossed copy of this resolution be presented to Bunim/Murray Productions as evidence of the sincere respect and admiration of this legislative body.
