Recognizing, honoring and celebrating Herb Magee, a life long resident of Philadelphia who has distinguished himself in Division II basketball history as being the coach with the most wins, for his many accomplishments during a career which spans more than forty years, and for his undying dedication to the City of Philadelphia.
Body
WHEREAS, Herb Magee was born and raised in Philadelphia, where he attended and graduated from West Catholic High School, exemplifying a love for basketball, as a leader and outstanding high school player.

WHEREAS, Herb Magee attended Philadelphia University, formerly Philadelphia College of Textiles and Sciences, where he was an outstanding student, and a member of the basketball team. His collegiate basketball career was exemplary, as he became the school's all-time leading scorer; and

WHEREAS, Herb Magee continuing in his love for basketball, began his coaching career as an assistant coach at Philadelphia University and he is currently into his 40th season as head coach of the Rams; and

WHEREAS, Herb Magee's accomplishments as a college basketball coach include surpassing Clarence "Big House" Gaines of Winston-Salem State for the most wins ever in Division II basketball, coaching the Rams into first place in the Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference, he has been named, on four occasions, Regional Coach of the Year, he has won one national championship, three regional championships, he has made 21 trips to the NCAA Division II tournament; and he has been nominated to the Naismith Memorial Basketball Hall of Fame; now therefore

RESOLVED, BY THE COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF PHILADELPHIA, That we hereby honor and commend Herb Magee for his many accomplishments, and for being, "extraordinary both in his legacy and longevity, having spent a lifetime shaping the game and the men who both play and coach in a manner that makes us all proud."
