Showing support for the City of Philadelphia Flood Risk Management Task Force by offering engaged partnership and thoughtful consideration of forthcoming recommendations.

WHEREAS, Like many cities across the nation, Philadelphia is dealing with an increase in flooding incidences and intensities; and
WHEREAS, Flooding of properties and natural areas is destructive, costly and tragic, rendering homes and businesses dangerous and unhealthy places during and following a storm; and
WHEREAS, Preparation for, prevention of, response during and recovery from flood events is not the responsibility of a single City agency; and
WHEREAS, It has become more apparent with each passing storm that the City requires a dedicated task force that will benefit from the diverse skills and expertise of City agencies and government partners; and
WHEREAS, In September 2014, the City of Philadelphia Flood Risk Management Task Force was convened to develop and implement an improved strategy for flood management and mitigation planning; and
WHEREAS, The City of Philadelphia Flood Risk Management Task Force is an inter-agency with a charge that includes developing a City-wide strategy to reduce flood risk, communicating risk to the public and a review of flood-related policy and zoning; now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED, BY THE COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF PHILADELPHIA, That this Council supports this effort and pledges to carefully consider recommendations produced by the City of Philadelphia Flood Risk Management Task Force.
