Recognizing, Honoring, Celebrating, and Thanking Leonard Thomas on the Occasion of his Retirement as a United States postal worker and letter carrier for City Hall.

WHEREAS, Leonard Thomas has been employed by the United States Postal Service for 42 years and 7 months; and
WHEREAS, During the past twelve years, Mr. Thomas has served Philadelphia City Council as its letter carrier; and
WHEREAS, Mr. Thomas steadfastly performed his duties in a professional, courteous, and gracious manner; and
WHEREAS, Leonard Thomas provided all City Council offices excellent and reliable service on a daily basis for which he was much loved and appreciated; and
WHEREAS, The motto, as translated from an ancient Greek work of Herodotus describing the Persian system of mounted postal carriers circa 500 B.C. and engraved on the outside of the James A. Farley Post Office building at 8th Avenue & 33rd Street in New York City, Neither snow nor rain nor heat nor gloom of night stays these couriers from the swift completion of their appointed rounds, can be said of Mr. Thomas; and
WHEREAS, Mr. Thomas will be truly missed by all members of City Council and their staff as well as by all those whose paths he crossed at City Hall; and
WHEREAS, Mr. Thomas officially retired from the United States Postal Service on Tuesday, February 1, 2011; now therefore
BE IT RESOLVED, BY THE COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF PHILADELPHIA, That it recognizes, honors, celebrates, and thanks Leonard Thomas on the occasion of his retirement as a United States postal worker and letter carrier for City Hall.
FURTHER RESOLVED, That an Engrossed copy of this resolution be presented to Leonard Thomas, further evidencing the sincere admiration and gratitude of this legislative body.
