WHEREAS, The City of Philadelphia proudly joins communities across the nation and around the world in celebrating International Dignity Month throughout October 2025; and
WHEREAS, The cause of dignity has been championed in Pennsylvania by State Senator Art Haywood, whose leadership has inspired a growing movement that affirms every person-regardless of race, ethnicity, faith, or identity-possesses inherent, God-given worth and value; and
WHEREAS, The principles of dignity challenge all people to act with empathy, compassion, and fairness, recognizing that the strength and health of our communities depend on how we uphold one another's humanity; and
WHEREAS, As the birthplace of American democracy and the City of Brotherly Love and Sisterly Affection, Philadelphia has long stood as a beacon of human rights and shared responsibility reminding us that true progress is measured not by wealth or power, but by how we treat one another with respect and care; and
WHEREAS, The City of Philadelphia continues to demonstrate its commitment to dignity by advancing equitable access to opportunity, safety, education, housing, and meaningful employment that strengthens families and neighborhoods; and
WHEREAS, Dignity is not only a value but a shared responsibility one that requires government, institutions, and neighbors alike to ensure that every resident is respected, heard, and valued; and
WHEREAS, International Dignity Month provides an opportunity for individuals, communities, and institutions to reflect on how dignity shapes our daily interactions, public spaces, and shared future; now, therefore, be it
