WHEREAS, Sister Salvatore Samko entered into the religious life in 1936. After a period of preparation, Sister Salvatore began ministry at Nazareth Hospital in Northeast Philadelphia in March 1942; and

WHEREAS, In October 1943, Sister Salvatore ministered and studied at Saint Mary of Nazareth Hospital in Chicago. Upon her return to Philadelphia, she was appointed Supervisor and Instructor in the X-ray Department at Nazareth Hospital, a position in which she served for 13 years; and

WHEREAS, Having been recognized for her gracious manner and leadership qualities, Sister was appointed Acting Administrator of Nazareth in August 1958; and

WHEREAS, In the early 1960's, Sister returned to school as a graduate student at Saint Louis University, where she received an advanced degree in Health Care Administration in May 1964; and

WHEREAS, After graduation, Sister Salvatore Samko returned yet again to Nazareth Hospital as its' new Administrator, a position she held for 33 years; and

WHEREAS, In January 1987 Sister Salvatore was appointed the first President of the Nazareth Healthcare Foundation; and

WHEREAS, In 1992, her undying dedication and extensive service to the hospital not yet complete, Sister was named Patient Representative, exemplifying her unending devotion to the Nazareth community and its' patients; and

WHEREAS, Although Sister Salvatore retired in October 1999, she continues to be a very active presence in the Volunteer Department at Nazareth Hospital. Sister Salvatore Samko represents all of the good things that Nazareth Hospital has to offer its' patients and its' community. Sister exemplifies the mission, goals and values instilled in the employees of Nazareth. She is an extraordinary person; now therefore
