Body
WHEREAS, Handicapped parking spaces, while providing a place for people with disabilities to park, do not provide sufficient space to allow these individuals to enter and exit the vehicle safely by means of a handicapped ramp; and
WHEREAS, It would provide ease of ingress and egress if handicapped parking spaces were of sufficient size to allow the use of a handicapped ramp; and
WHEREAS, It would be appropriate for the Philadelphia Parking Authority, which controls parking throughout the City, to undertake a feasibility study to see how much, if any, additional space is needed at handicapped parking spaces to allow for the safe use of handicapped ramps for egress and ingress from handicapped equipped vans; now therefore
RESOLVED, BY THE COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF PHILADELPHIA, That Council calls on the Philadelphia Parking Authority to undertake a feasibility study to determine how much additional space is necessary to allow people with handicapped equipped vans to use handicapped ramps for easier ingress and egress.
