WHEREAS, From March 2, 2014 to May 26, 2014, The Philadelphia Museum of Art will present Treasures from Korea: Arts and Culture of the Joseon Dynasty, 1392-1910, a traveling exhibition comprised of more than 150 works drawn primarily from the National Museum of Korea's collection, and supplemented by works from other public and private collections, including artistic masterpieces designated as national treasures; and

WHEREAS, Treasures from Korea celebrates the artistic achievements of the Joseon Dynasty, a lineage of twenty-seven monarchs that ruled the Korean peninsula for more than five hundred years, leaving a substantial artistic legacy in a variety of mediums, including paintings, ceramics, calligraphy, books, furniture, metal works, and costumes; and

WHEREAS, Treasures from Korea fosters a greater understanding of this historical period through the presentation of exceptional works of art, interactive displays, and a wide range of community programs such as film screenings, family celebrations, performances, and lectures offered as part of the exhibition; and

WHEREAS, A highly successful fundraising effort by the Philadelphia Art Museum raised over $1.7 Million for the exhibition from individuals, institutions, and corporations, including The National Endowment for the Humanities, The Exelon Foundation and PECO, The E. Rhodes and Leona B. Carpenter Foundation, The Korea Foundation, and The Henry Luce Foundation; and

WHEREAS, The exhibition is organized by the National Museum of Korea, the Philadelphia Museum of Art, the Los Angeles County Museum of Art, and the Museum of Fine Arts, Houston; and
