Recognizing and Honoring Saint James Lutheran Church on its 100th Anniversary and celebrating its centennial as a pillar of faith, community service, and providing spiritual guidance.

WHEREAS, On March 23, 1926, seventeen faithful individuals gathered to organize Saint James Lutheran Church, planting the seeds of faith and hope at the corner of Castor and Pratt Streets; and
WHEREAS, Over the past century, through the unwavering vision and dedication of its leaders and members, Saint James Lutheran Church has grown to become a cherished landmark and a beacon of spiritual light in the Frankford and Northeast Philadelphia communities; and
WHEREAS, For 100 years, the dynamic ministries of Saint James have blessed many thousands, offering hospitality and hope through scouting and youth programs, seniors groups, vibrant music and theater, numerous AA and NA support meetings, civic and multicultural events, and a multitude of worship opportunities; and
WHEREAS, Saint James has flourished under the inspired guidance of six devoted pastors including Joseph A. Schantz, who oversaw three building expansions between 1948 and 1975, and Paul A. Andell, whose leadership from 1975 to 2011 strengthened the church’s community presence, each shepherding the congregation with wisdom and vision; and
WHEREAS, While ministries paused briefly in 2019, Saint James experienced a remarkable renewal with the return of Pastor Paul A. Andell in 2020, ushering in a season of revitalized service and steadfast commitment to future generations, all in the name of Jesus Christ; and
WHEREAS, We mark the 100th Anniversary of Saint James Lutheran Church, by celebrating its enduring legacy as the destination for ministry, fellowship, and faith, a pillar of love and service in our community; now, therefore, be it
