Honoring and commending Sergeant Joseph Itzko for his 50 years of meritorious service to the City of Philadelphia and the Philadelphia Police Department.
Body
WHEREAS, Sergeant Joseph Itzko has faithfully served the citizens of Philadelphia and the Philadelphia Police Department as, among other capacities, a police officer in the Philadelphia Police Highway Patrol Unit; and

WHEREAS, Sergeant Joseph Itzko has proven himself to be a valuable asset to the Philadelphia Police Department as he has earned over his 50 year career, 1 merit commendation and 14 letters of commendation, including 2 letters of commendation from Mayors Tate and Dilworth; and

WHEREAS, Sergeant Joseph Itzko has consistently displayed courage, loyalty, and commitment in his service to the City of Philadelphia and the Philadelphia Police Department evidenced by such notable acts as apprehending armed robbers, providing escorts to dignitaries and public officials, and assisting motorists whose vehicles become disabled on the City's highways, and in 1957, Sergeant Itzko was awarded a commendation for his excellent use of judgment, tact, and diplomacy in handling complicated and potentially explosive labor disputes; and

WHEREAS, An excerpt from a nomination letter that was printed in the Philadelphia Daily News on Monday, October 25, 1999, stated that Sergeant Itzko "has made many arrests during his 49 years on the force and has led many law-breakers onto the right path by giving them advice or knowledge or his wisdom. He was on the streets of North Philadelphia when the riots broke out on Columbia Avenue. He is a compassionate professional who has fought to make a better quality of life for all of us in the City"; and

WHEREAS, Sergeant Itzko's 50 years of service meet the highest standards of the Philadelphia Police Department and truly reflect the Police Department's motto, "Honor, Service and Integrity"; now therefore

RESOLVED, BY THE COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF PHILADELPHIA...
