Honoring Marie B. Hauser.

WHEREAS, Marie B. Hauser is a born and bred Philadelphian. She was brought up in Northern Liberties, earned her degree in business administration from St. Joseph's University, and has lived for years in Roxborough; and
WHEREAS, Marie began her career in City Council in 1972. She was appointed as a stenographer in the Office of the Chief Clerk, and she quickly learned the intricacies of the legislative process, thus earning the respect of her superiors and the confidence of her colleagues; and
WHEREAS, Ms. Hauser was appointed Assistant Chief Clerk in 1984, and moved up the promotional ladder again in 1991, becoming Deputy Chief Clerk. In this capacity, she had vastly increased responsibility for the oversight of Council publications, the advertising of notices, and the maintenance of all Council records. During these years, she also continued to make friends throughout City Council. She has been held in high esteem and deep affection by Councilmembers and staff alike; and
WHEREAS, In 1992, Marie Hauser became the first woman to win the job of Chief Clerk of City Council. She was elected to this position on inauguration day, with the unanimous vote of all Councilmembers. Since that time, she has performed her duties with good cheer, commitment, loyalty and determination. Her easy smile, hearty laugh and courteous manner have endeared her to the entire City Council family and to the citizens she has served over these three-plus decades; now therefore
RESOLVED, BY THE COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF PHILADELPHIA, That we hereby honor and commend Ms. Marie B. Hauser at the time of her retirement. We thank her for a job well done, and extend to her our very best wishes for her retirement.
FURTHER RESOLVED, That an Engrossed copy of this resolution be presented to Ms. Marie B. Hauser as evidence of the sincere admiration and deep respect of this legislative body.
