WHEREAS, Community Colleges have been educating students in Pennsylvania since 1964, making 2008 the 44th year of the community college system.
WHEREAS, Pennsylvania is home to 14 community colleges with an annual enrollment of more than 370,000 students, and that have educated more than 4 million Pennsylvanians over the past 44 years; and
WHEREAS, Community Colleges serve not only their communities, but beyond, by providing students and residents access to the most convenient and cost-effective educational opportunities available, as well as opening their campuses to embrace the communities they serve; and
WHEREAS, Community College of Philadelphia is one of the largest institutions of higher education in Philadelphia, serving nearly 34,000 credit and non-credit students; and
WHEREAS, Community College of Philadelphia is an open admission, certificate and associate degree-granting institution, which has provided access to higher education for more than 580,000 individuals since 1964; and
WHEREAS, Community College of Philadelphia offers more than 70 career and transfer programs in Business, Humanities, Allied Health, Science and Technology, and the Social and Behavioral Sciences; and
WHEREAS, Community College of Philadelphia offers dual admissions programs and transfer agreements that enable students to seamlessly transfer to four-year colleges and universities; and
WHEREAS, Community College of Philadelphia has an excellent athletics program, in which the men's basketball team has won two consecutive state championships, the men's and women's cross country track teams have won statewide awards and the tennis team has won its second Pennsylvania Collegiate Athletic Association championship; and
