WHEREAS, Gamma Phi Sigma "Hermanos Unidos" Fraternity, Incorporated was founded on April 16th, 1992 at Temple University by eight dynamic Latino men, with a focus on academic excellence, cultural awareness, community service, and above all brotherhood; and

WHEREAS, On April 16th, 1992 the founding Hermanos decided to build a positive image for Latino males, that would counter the negative stereotypes in this society; and

WHEREAS, Soon after the fraternity was founded, brothers established a tutoring center for community youth; and

WHEREAS, Gamma Phi Sigma has continuously established working relationships with organizations such as Congreso de Latinos Unidos, Aspira Inc. of Pennsylvania and Taller Puertorriqueño, Inc. to support the advancement of the Latino community; and

WHEREAS, Gamma Phi Sigma has continually served the Philadelphia community for sixteen years in hopes to encourage other youth to pursue a higher education; and

WHEREAS, Gamma Phi Sigma has chapters in Pennsylvania State University Main Campus; University of Massachusetts, Amherst; Springfield College campuses; University of Maryland, College Park; and Kutztown University; and

WHEREAS, Gamma Phi Sigma has participated and conducted countless park cleanups to instill pride in neighborhood values; and

WHEREAS, Gamma Phi Sigma hosts an annual "Founders Week" with workshops and trainings aimed towards young Latino men; and

WHEREAS, This years "Founders Week" will involve workshops on ending gang activity in the Latino community, a forum on immigration, and organized community clean-ups; now, therefore, be it
