Honoring the Philadelphia Alumnae Chapter of the Delta Sigma Theta Sorority.

WHEREAS, The Philadelphia Alumnae Chapter of Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Inc., is celebrating its 75th Anniversary during this month, and we are persuaded that the members have much to celebrate, for in these 75 years they have made innumerable contributions to our City and region; and

WHEREAS, The Sorority, which was founded in 1913 by 22 students at Howard University, has always had service to humanity as its bedrock mission. Today more that 200,000 have joined in this noble cause, including a significant and well-respected Philadelphia Alumnae Chapter, which was established in 1927 and has continued to grow since that year; and

WHEREAS, We also recognize at this time William H. Gray, III, President and CEO of The College Fund/UNCF. He is receiving the Philadelphia Chapter's most prestigious honor, the Sadie T.M. Alexander Award. We note that the late Gertrude Barnes and Dr. Constance Clayton, Honorary Chairs for this Celebration, are also Sadie T.M. Alexander Honorees. Mr. Gray has earned the respect of the academic community as well as untold thousands of individuals and families who have benefited from his wise counsel; and

WHEREAS, Each year, the Philadelphia Alumnae Chapter sponsors May Week programs, which go far toward fulfilling the goals and objectives of the Sorority and help inform the public of the extent and richness of the sorors' service; now therefore

RESOLVED, BY THE COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF PHILADELPHIA, That we hereby honor and commend the members of the Philadelphia Alumnae Chapter of Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Inc. on the great occasion of their 75th Anniversary of distinguished service.

FURTHER RESOLVED, That an Engrossed copy of this resolution be presented to the sorors of the Philadelphia Alumnae Chapter, Sigma Theta Sorority, as evidence of the high esteem and deep respect of this legislative body.
