Body
WHEREAS, The Center for Black Male Educator Development bolsters the Black male educator pipeline and works to influence Philadelphia High School students towards careers in education. The Center makes sure that the recruitment and retention of Black male educators sees growth in the City of Philadelphia and across the nation; and

WHEREAS, The Black Male Educators' Convening was first hosted by the Center for Black Male Educator Development here in Philadelphia in 2015; and

WHEREAS, Additionally, the Center for Black Male Educator Development successfully advocated for addressing Pennsylvania's outdated and now changed funding formula, which historically has underfunded urban school districts like Philadelphia's; and

WHEREAS, The Center for Black Male Educator Development supports Black male educators as well as students looking to get into education careers by addressing crucial issues in Black pedagogy, access, and theory through a variety of mechanisms; and

WHEREAS, In November, the Center for Black Educator Development continues the important
tradition of supporting Black men in education, hosting the 7th annual National Black Men in
Education Convening on November 21st through 23rd, 2024 in Philadelphia; now, therefore, be it;

RESOLVED, BY THE COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF PHILADELPHIA, That we hereby recognize October as Black Male Educators Month in the City of Philadelphia, and recognize the Center for Black Male Educator, for their dedication to the recruitment, development, and retention of Black male educators in schools by providing support and mentorship to Black men.
