Congratulating the Overbrook Monarchs Youth Athletics Association on competing in the 2018 United Youth Football League National Championship Tournament.

WHEREAS, The Overbrook Monarchs Youth Athletic Association is a non-profit organization which strives to promote educational and community outreach, mentorship and diversity through athletics and social interaction, with the hopes of instilling pride, teamwork, leadership, sportsmanship, quality work ethic, discipline and awareness while stressing academic and athletic achievement among its participants and members of the community they interact with; and
WHEREAS, The organization is led by its President and Founder Robert Ford. The team's coaches are members of the community in which the team plays. The Overbrook Monarchs host their practices at Granahan Recreation Center at 65th & Callowhill Streets; and
WHEREAS, In November of 2018, youth players of the Monarchs' 9-year-old team and 12-year-old team learned that they would be going to Florida to compete in 2018 United Youth Football League National Championship Tournament. Congressman Bob Brady assisted the Overbrook Monarchs in travelling to Florida, by presenting them with a $10,000 check from the non-profit Greater Philadelphia Traditions; and
WHEREAS, The United Youth Football League National Championship Tournament began on December 1, 2018 in Plant City, Florida at Ellis-Methvin Park. The tournament has been hosted in Plant City since 2011, and each year, hundreds of youth football teams from across the United States travel to compete; and
WHEREAS, The 9-year-old team, coached by Tony Daniels, placed 4th overall in the competition. The 12-year-old team, coached by Richard Carr, Sr., came in 3rd place; and
WHEREAS, The Overbrook Monarchs Youth Athletic Association has continued to be a positive presence in the community. The team's performance during the 2018 United Youth Football League National Championship should be recognized as...
