Honoring Johnny Sample.

      WHEREAS, Johnny Sample was born in Virginia, played football in Baltimore, New York and Pittsburgh, settled in Philadelphia and became a citizen of the first order among us; and
 
      WHEREAS, Today, Mr. Sample is a Philadelphia treasure, successful in all of his endeavors, respected by his peers, idolized by young people, and held in deep affection by all who know him.  He appears on television and radio, has published a book, runs a famous and ever-growing tennis camp in Fairmount Park, and is in every way a credit to this City and our community; and
 
      WHEREAS, Johnny Sample has been accepted as a candidate for the Pro Football Hall of Fame, Class of 2001.  Considering that he played on several championship teams, held championship records, led the Jets with interceptions, and considering that today he gives of his time, resources and name recognition to enhance the lives of those around him, his induction into the Pro Football Hall of Fame cannot come soon enough for us; now therefore
 
      RESOLVED, BY THE COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF PHILADELPHIA, That we hereby honor and commend Johnny Sample.  We treasure him and are proud of his personal and professional accomplishments, and we urge the Pro Football Hall of Fame Senior Committee to give his nomination every possible and positive consideration.
 
      RESOLVED, That an Engrossed copy of this resolution be presented to Johnny Sample as evidence of the high esteem and true respect of this legislative body.
