Honoring and congratulating The Hive on becoming Philadelphia's first co-working space dedicated to ambitious women.

WHEREAS, Philadelphia's first co-working space dedicated to ambitious women, The Hive is focused on becoming an organic hub for women-owned businesses, women entrepreneurs or businesses that invest in improving the livelihoods of women; and
WHEREAS, Created by Melissa Alam, the founder of online magazine Femme & Fortune, The Hive is a 900-square-foot space in Old City which aims to inspire collaboration, personal and professional development, mentorship and empowerment here in Philadelphia; and
WHEREAS, Alam's vision is to provide an outlet and resource for those women to come together and get the support, mentorship, advice, etc. that they're craving as female business owners; and
WHEREAS, In 2013, female full-time workers made only 78 cents for every dollar earned by men, a gender wage gap of 22 percent; and
WHEREAS, In 2013, the 2020 Women on Boards Gender Diversity Index of Fortune 1000 companies showed that 16.6% of corporate directors were women; and
WHEREAS, The Hive provides women of all ages and backgrounds a space to work and a community full of like-minded women; and
WHEREAS, The Hive will also serve as a venue for monthly networking events and workshops held by members and local professionals; now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED, BY THE COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF PHILADELPHIA, That Council does hereby honor and congratulate The Hive on becoming Philadelphia's first co-working space dedicated to ambitious women.
FURTHER RESOLVED, That an Engrossed copy of this resolution be presented to Melissa Alam as evidence of the sincere sentiments of this legislative body.
