WHEREAS, Philadelphia will celebrate Microeconomic Development Week on this 41st anniversary of the City's first MED Week, which was first launched in 1984; and

WHEREAS, This year's MED Week is co-chaired by the African American Chamber of Commerce, Asian American Chamber of Commerce of Greater Philadelphia, Greater Philadelphia Hispanic Chamber of Commerce, Independence Business Alliance, the Mayor's Office of Business Impact and Economic Advancement, and the City of Philadelphia Commerce Department, and is sponsored by corporations, local colleges, universities, hospitals, local and regional government agencies, and organizations that are committed to supporting opportunities for small and local businesses; and

WHEREAS, During MED Week, the City of Philadelphia also recognizes the critical role of the Office of Business Impact and Economic Advancement and the Office of Economic Opportunity in assisting Departments in fostering economic opportunity for all; and

WHEREAS, Small businesses in Philadelphia and across the country are the cornerstone of economic growth, creating two-thirds of net new jobs in the country and comprising nearly 50% of America's employment; and

WHEREAS, Local businesses in Philadelphia, the vast majority of which are also small businesses, are a key component to the City's business ecosystem; and

WHEREAS, Ensuring access to sources of capital, technical resources, and contracting opportunities is essential to the development, growth, and prosperity of businesses in Philadelphia; and

WHEREAS, Philadelphia MED Week has grown exponentially since its inception, offering more than 30 workshops, seminars, and networking opportunities across the region; now, therefore, be it
