Title
Honoring Thelma Peake and Peake's Little Angels.
Body
WHEREAS, With more than half of Americans overweight and only twenty-four percent eating the five servings of fruits and vegetables recommended by nutritionists, Americans seem to be on a veritable junk food binge; and

WHEREAS, Ms. Thelma Peake, founder of Little Angels Child-Care Center at 52nd Street and Baltimore Avenue, has taken it upon herself to change all that, not only in the Center, but throughout West Philadelphia.  At Ms. Peake's Center, the seventy-five children in her care are given at least four servings of fruits and vegetables a day before they go home for dinner; and

WHEREAS, Ms Peake thinks it is a milestone when children choose apples over candy, and we agree.  She does not permit "junk food" in her Center, despite the fact that pizza and hoagie shops dot the neighborhood, and potato chips are far more readily available than carrots; and

WHEREAS, Now that she has won over the youngsters, Ms. Peake is waging a campaign to change eating habits throughout the neighborhood, and her "little angels" are her best soldiers in this difficult battle.  They actually lobby their parents for apples, couscous and kiwi fruit at home, and their improved outlook, general health, and strength are all the proof needed of the wisdom of their course; now therefore

RESOLVED, BY THE COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF PHILADELPHIA, That we hereby honor and commend Ms. Thelma Peake and Peake's Little Angels.  We should take a page from their book, for they have shown what a difference good nutrition can make.

FURTHER RESOLVED, That an Engrossed copy of this resolution be presented to Ms. Thelma Peake as evidence of the sincere gratitude, admiration and deep respect of this legislative body.
