Body
WHEREAS, The services that law enforcement officers, firefighters, paramedics, and EMT's provide for the citizens of the City of Philadelphia and the State of Pennsylvania are the most essential services that allow our citizens to live with the safety, security, and freedom that they deserve; and
 
WHEREAS, Law enforcement officers, firefighters, paramedics, and EMT's  serve the citizens of their communities with dedication and integrity; and
 
WHEREAS, These men and women stand guard in our midst, night and day, to protect us through enforcement of our laws and by providing for our general health and well being; and
 
WHEREAS, The dedication and intrepidness of our nation's law enforcement officers, firefighters, paramedics, and EMT's and the sacrifices that those who have been killed in the line of duty have made should not go unrecognized; and
 
WHEREAS, State law currently authorizes the flag of the United States of America and the flag of the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania to be flown at half-mast from all public grounds and buildings of the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania on May 15 to honor peace officers who lost their lives in the line of duty; now therefore
 
RESOLVED, BY THE COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF PHILADELPHIA, That it hereby requests that the Pennsylvania State Legislature require the flag of the United States of America and the flag of the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania be flown at half-mast from all state buildings, including the State Capitol, when any law enforcement officer, firefighter, paramedic, or EMT in the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania dies in the line of duty.
