WHEREAS, The Dominican Republic gained its independence on February 27, 1844, marking 181 years of sovereignty, resilience, and cultural pride, having overcome historical challenges to establish itself as a beacon of freedom and democracy in the Caribbean; and

WHEREAS, The Dominican community has played an integral and unwavering role in shaping the cultural, economic, and social fabric of Philadelphia, contributing significantly to the City's diversity and strength through entrepreneurship, civic engagement, and the arts, enriching the City's vibrant multicultural identity; and

WHEREAS, Philadelphia is home to a thriving and ever-growing Dominican population, whose presence continues to enrich the City with its rich traditions, vibrant music, distinctive cuisine, and deep commitment to education, family, and public service, fostering a spirit of unity and inclusion; and

WHEREAS, The contributions of the Dominican community in Philadelphia are evident across numerous sectors, including business, healthcare, government, and nonprofit organizations, where their efforts not only enhance the quality of life for residents but also strengthen the City's economic and cultural dynamism, making it a more prosperous and inclusive place for all; and

WHEREAS, The annual celebration of Dominican Independence Day serves as a meaningful opportunity to honor the enduring legacy of the Dominican Republic, recognize the outstanding achievements of Dominicans in Philadelphia, and celebrate the enduring bonds between the Dominican diaspora and their homeland, fostering pride, solidarity, and cultural exchange; now, therefore, be it
