WHEREAS, Since 2011, The Christian R. and Mary F. Lindback Foundation has annually recognized principals in the School District of Philadelphia who have provided significant leadership and made major contributions to their schools. Each recipient is awarded $20,000 that can be spent on a school improvement project of their choosing; and

WHEREAS, Overbrook High School on Lancaster Avenue in the 4th Council District is dedicated to preparing their students for success. Every member of the Overbrook High School community is fully committed to both the academic and social growth of all of their students. They are determined to empower students to meet their goals, overcome their challenges, develop social awareness, enhance civic responsibility, and encourage growth; and

WHEREAS, Dr. Kahlila Johnson has served as the Principal of Overbrook High School, her alma mater, since June of 2019. Dr. Johnson is a graduate of Temple University with a Bachelor's Degree in Physics, Master's Degree in Curriculum, Instruction, and Technology, and in 2015 she earned her Doctorate of Education from the University of Pennsylvania; and

WHEREAS, Throughout her distinguished career in education, Dr. Johnson has served as both a principal and as an assistant principal in the School District of Philadelphia. She has also served as an assistant principal at Mastery Charter Schools, Interim Principal of Universal Daroff Charter School, and Chief of Academics and Student Services at PA Virtual Charter School; and

WHEREAS, As a student in Overbrook High School, Dr. Johnson frequently used their library to study and collaborate with other students. However, over the years, that library has fell into a state of disrepair, being used as a storage room with aging books and outdated technology. Dr. Johnson plans to use the award to revitalize t...
