WHEREAS, On April 26th, 1985, the Alpha Phi Alpha Omicron Delta Lambda (ODL) Chapter was chartered in Philadelphia by Selvin L. Gordon, James B. Harris, and Howard Busch, instilling Alpha Phi Alpha's mission to develop leaders as well as to promote brotherhood and academic excellence, while providing service and advocacy for our communities throughout the City of Philadelphia; and

WHEREAS, ODL has exhibited tireless commitment to uplifting our community through service projects and advocacy. Facilitating college preparation for youth, scholarship programs, mentorship opportunities, voter registration, and conducting recurring participation in charity events and homeless drives among other things; and

WHEREAS, Through their impactful programs, ODL continues to uphold their aims of Manly Deeds, Scholarship, and Love for All Mankind, spreading their positive influence across Philadelphia's great neighborhoods; and

WHEREAS, The Chapter, a beacon of Black excellence, has used its resources to empower some of Philadelphia's most marginalized communities; and

WHEREAS, The Chapter advises and works with the University of Pennsylvania (Psi Chapter), Temple University (Pi Rho Chapter), Cheyney University (Delta Pi Chapter) and West Chester University (Zeta Psi Chapter), providing mentorship and engaging in community service events with them throughout the City; and

WHEREAS, Fulfilling their core values of Brotherhood and Fraternity, ODL continues to shape Black leaders influencing all sectors of society; now, therefore, be it

RESOLVED, THAT THE COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF PHILADELPHIA, Hereby honors, recognizes and celebrates the Omicron Delta Lambda Chapter of Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity, Incorporated as they celebrate 40 years of unparalleled service in the City of Philadelphia.
