Encouraging the Eagles and the Phillies to continue honoring the memory and contributions of veterans at the newly constructed baseball and football facilities.

WHEREAS, Veterans Stadium was constructed in the 1970's and dedicated to the honor of Veterans throughout our nation, state, and the region; and
 
WHEREAS, The City of Philadelphia and the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania recently allocated several hundred million dollars for the construction of new state of the art baseball and football stadiums; and
 
WHEREAS, Lincoln Financial Group recently signed a $139.6 million dollar deal with the Eagles to name the new football stadium Lincoln Financial Field; and
      
WHEREAS, The deal will provide lucrative marketing benefits for Lincoln Financial and will allow for the Eagles to finance their portion of the stadium; and
 
WHEREAS, It is likely the Phillies will sign a similar deal to finance their portion of constructing a new baseball stadium; and
 
WHEREAS, $2,000,000 per year will go to a Children's Fund as a result of cooperation between Council, the teams and the administration; and
 
WHEREAS, The Philadelphia region's veterans have contributed significantly to our nations defense; and
 
WHEREAS, Many of our region's veterans have continued to serve our region after leaving the service as elected officials and as business leaders; and
 
WHEREAS, It is important for the City and the region to continue to honor the service of our nation's veterans; now therefore
 
RESOLVED, BY THE COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF PHILADELPHIA, That we encourage the Phillies and the Eagles to continue to honor our region's veterans in their new facilities by considering including veterans in naming rights packages and in any other memorials or displays in the new facilities and sports complex.
