Honoring the life and accomplishments of John B. Sample III, devout church deacon, accomplished athlete, scholar and business executive, and leader in the African-American community.
Body
WHEREAS, John B. Sample, son of the former pro-football standout and WHAT radio talk show host Johnny Sample, was a loving husband, dedicated father, and devoted son and brother; and

WHEREAS, John B. Sample was a leader in the African-American community as a member of Concerned Black Men and as an organizer of the Million Man March in Washington, D.C., which he believed was an important event in getting African-American people together in unity for one goal, and that is to help each other; and

WHEREAS, John B. Sample was a remarkable athlete in his own right as he ran track and played football at Central High School; and

WHEREAS, John B. Sample was a devoted fan of Philadelphia sports teams, particularly of the Philadelphia 76ers and Philadelphia Phillies, but his favorite team was the Philadelphia Eagles; and

WHEREAS, John B. Sample was also a scholar and talented business executive as he graduated from Morgan State University in Baltimore, then he went on to complete two years of graduate study at the University of Pennsylvania's Wharton School of Business, and later worked as an executive with the IBM Corporation where he received the Marketing Excellence Award and a variety of other awards; and

WHEREAS, John B. Sample was a devout church deacon at Sharon Baptist Church where he displayed his compassionate and gentle personality and provided leadership and organization for the congregation of his church and community, for which he was profoundly admired; now therefore

RESOLVED, BY THE COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF PHILADELPHIA, That we hereby honor the life and accomplishments of John B. Sample III, devout church deacon, accomplished athlete, scholar and business executive, and leader in the African-American community.
