Honoring and recognizing Sixx King for his accomplishments as a film director and for his contributions to the community and small-business ecosystem in Philadelphia’s 4th Councilmanic District.

WHEREAS, Sixx King is a Philadelphia film director and creative entrepreneur whose independent projects have drawn national recognition while centering narratives of recovery and purpose; and
WHEREAS, These narratives create a captivating and moving story in his latest film, Jonesing: When Love is a Habit that authentically shares stories of Black love, triumph and joy; and
WHEREAS, His dedication to independent film innovation has broken barriers and expanded opportunities for Black cinema nationwide; and
WHEREAS, Mr. King’s productions have employed local actors, editors, designers, technicians, and vendors, contributing to workforce development in the City’s creative sector; and
WHEREAS, Mr. King operates a hospitality and arts venue at 4255 Main Street in Manayunk, within the 4th Councilmanic District, activating Main Street with culturally rich programming, small-business collaborations, and neighborhood-serving events; and
WHEREAS, He mentors youth, partners with community organizations, and supports violence-prevention and reentry programs, demonstrating a sustained commitment to public service beyond the arts; and
WHEREAS, These efforts strengthen neighborhood cohesion, expand opportunity, and showcase Philadelphia as a world-class home for film and creative enterprise; now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED, BY THE COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF PHILADELPHIA, Hereby honors and recognizes Sixx King for his artistic achievements and community leadership in the 4th Councilmanic District.
FURTHER RESOLVED, That an Engrossed copy of this Resolution be presented to Sixx King as evidence of the sincere respect and appreciation of this legislative body.
