Recognizing Thursday, April 24, 2014 as Take Our Daughters and Sons to Work Day.

WHEREAS, The first annual Take Our Daughters to Work Day was celebrated on Thursday, April 22, 1993 and has since been celebrated on the 4th Thursday of April every year. The holiday was created in the summer of 1992 by the Ms. Foundation for Women and its president Marie C. Wilson, with support from foundation founder Gloria Steinem; and
WHEREAS, The program was expanded in 2003 to include boys, becoming Take Our Daughters and Sons to Work Day; and
WHEREAS, Take Our Daughters and Sons to Work Day has inspired a future generation of more than 37 million youths and adults participating at over 3.5 million workplaces each year by helping bring children into the workplace in order to explore the many life choices they have; and
WHEREAS, The theme for the 21st anniversary of Take Our Daughters and Sons to Work Day is "Plant a Seed, Grow a Future". It is a celebration of the renewed success of the program year after year and the encouragement each person has provided to make it happen. It is also a chance to make what has become a very special contribution to the American workforce and students by educating and empowering youth and providing them with experiences they might not have had otherwise; and
WHEREAS, Hundreds of Philadelphia businesses, as well as departments within the City of Philadelphia have been celebrating Take Our Daughters and Sons to Work Day since 1992; and
WHEREAS, Exposing girls and boys to the value of their education, helping them discover the power and possibilities associated with a balanced work and family life, and providing them with an opportunity to share how they envision the future and begin steps toward their career end goals in a hands-on and interactive environment is key to their achieving success; and
