WHEREAS, The Philadelphia City Council proudly recognizes the National Pan-Hellenic Council for its meaningful contributions, service and leadership within the City of Philadelphia; and

WHEREAS, On May 10, 1930, the National Pan-Hellenic Council (NPHC) was founded on the campus of Howard University in Washington, D.C.; and

WHEREAS, The National Pan-Hellenic Council unites nine historically Black Greek-letter organizations, collectively known as the "Divine Nine" to promote cooperation, service, scholarship, and leadership within the community; and

WHEREAS, The National Pan-Hellenic Council is composed of Alpha Phi Alpa Fraternity, Inc., Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Inc., Kappa Alpha Psi Fraternity, Inc., Omega Psi Phi Fraternity, Inc., Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Inc., Phi Beta Sigma Fraternity, Inc., Zeta Phi Beta Sorority, Inc., Sigma Gamma Rho Sorority, Inc., and Iota Phi Theta Fraternity, Inc.; and

WHEREAS, Since its inception, the National Pan-Hellenic Council has served as a steward of the impactful work carried out by its member fraternities and sororities, and through its leadership and support has amplified the collective impact of the Divine Nine worldwide while preserving and uplifting the cultural heritage of the Black community; and

WHEREAS, With thousands of collegiates and alumni chapters across the United States and around the world, NPHC continues its commitment to education, civic engagement, leadership, public service, and community empowerment; and

WHEREAS, NPHC and its members have made significant contributions to the City of Philadelphia through scholarship, community service, mentorship, voter engagement, public health advocacy, economic empowerment, and educational initiatives; and
