WHEREAS, Philadelphia hosted America's first purebred Dog Show at our 1876 Centennial Exposition; and
WHEREAS, The Kennel Club of Philadelphia was founded in 1879 and has presented dog shows on a continuing basis since that time; and
WHEREAS, Today's Kennel Club of Philadelphia is the direct descendant of one of America's first kennel clubs and its shows predate the World Series, The Masters and other major events as great American sporting traditions, and
WHEREAS, The National Dog Show attracts top dog show talent from across the country for elite competition and is televised in a two-hour national broadcast on Thanksgiving Day watched annually by almost 20 million viewers; and
WHEREAS, The Kennel Club of Philadelphia Dog Shows is expected to bring over 25,000 exhibitors, officials, and spectators over four days, delivering a substantial economic impact on our great City; and
WHEREAS, The dog is man and woman's best friend; now therefore
RESOLVED, BY THE COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF PHILADELPHIA, That It Honors, Recognizes and Celebrates the Return to Our Great City of Philadelphia The Kennel Club of Philadelphia Dog Shows and Designates the Weekend of November 15-18 as Kennel Club of Philadelphia Dog Shows Weekend, also to be known as Philadelphia's Dog Days of November.
