Welcoming TEDxDilworthPark to the City of Philadelphia and recognizing them for their commitment to ideas worth spreading on a global scale.

WHEREAS, TED, which stands for Technology, Entertainment, Design, was founded in 1984 as a conference focused on those subjects; it has since expanded to encompass scientific, cultural, political, humanitarian, and academic topics; and
WHEREAS, In the spirit of ideas worth spreading, TEDx is a program of local, self-organized events that bring people together to share a TED-like experience; and
WHEREAS, These local events are branded TEDx, where x = independently organized TED event; and
WHEREAS, At a TEDx event, live and recorded TED Talks combine to spark deep discussion and connection, and deepen their collective understanding on topics both global and local; and
WHEREAS, TEDxDilworthPark is the fourth consecutive TEDx event organized under the volunteer leadership of Charles Black, Emily Gale, Chris Benson, and Lisa Longo; and
WHEREAS, TEDxDilworthPark features twelve dynamic and engaging speakers: Maybe Burke, Tina Nacrelli, Brian Tucker, Najya Williams, Michael Twining, Lyndsey Getty, Nicole Bailey-Williams, Adaeze Iloeje-Udeogalanya, Theo Major, Ssanyu Lukoma, Lauren Cristella, and David Sylvester; and
WHEREAS, The TEDxDilworthPark Talks, ably guided by Masters of Ceremonies Ernest Owens and Jordan O'Neill, will be published on the global TED website, bringing the people, ideas and culture of Philadelphia to millions; and
WHEREAS, This Council recognizes the volunteer organizers of TEDxDilworthPark for their commitment to TED and their communities, and congratulates them as they stage an engaging and successful even:: now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED, BY THE COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF PHILADELPHIA, That we hereby welcome TEDxDilworthPark to the City of Philadelphia and recognize them for their commitment to ideas worth spreading on a global scale.
