WHEREAS, Sid Booker, at the age of 87, leaves behind a legacy of entrepreneurship, civic engagement, and cultural impact through his establishments, Sid Booker's Shrimp Corner and the renowned nightclub Stinger/La Pointe, both of which became cherished landmarks at Broad and Belfield; and
WHEREAS, For decades, Sid Booker's famous fried shrimp takeout and vibrant entertainment venue provided a gathering place for individuals from all walks of life, fostering a sense of community and camaraderie throughout Philadelphia; and
WHEREAS, The City of Philadelphia recognized Sid Booker's immense contributions to the community by renaming the 4600 block of North Broad Street as "Sid Booker Way" in October 2023, a tribute that ensures his name and impact will be remembered for generations to come; and
WHEREAS, Sid Booker's establishment was a cornerstone for political engagement, serving as a vital meeting place and hub of support for numerous elected officials, including the historic elections of Philadelphia's first African American Mayor, Wilson Goode, and the first African American President of the United States, Barack Obama; and
WHEREAS, Sid Booker has been recognized by many as a legendary figure in the African-American business community, emphasizing his unwavering support for civic leadership and his role in shaping Philadelphia's political and cultural landscape; and
WHEREAS, Sid Booker's love for his community has shaped him into a great philanthropist, helping countless organizations for youth, donating to school building funds in the inner City, awarding scholarships to college-bound students, donating and sponsoring community bookbag and toy drives, and supporting campaigns of some of Pennsylvania's most influential politicians; and
