Honoring Paul N. Lonie, P.L.S., Survey Bureau Manager.
Body
WHEREAS, Mr. Lonie has served the citizens as an employee of the City of Philadelphia for over thirty-six years, beginning as an engineering aide with the Streets Department; and
WHEREAS, Mr. Lonie has been the manager of the Survey Bureau for the past eight years and in that capacity has written over two hundred pieces of legislation that have come before this Council; and
WHEREAS, At the request of this Council Mr. Lonie developed the first successful plan for the reconstruction of dangerous retaining walls, throughout the City, in almost thirty years; and
WHEREAS, The administration felt it was in the best interest of the citizens to begin a program to plow and salt over one thousand miles of residential streets in every snowstorm and Mr. Lonie was called on to lead this effort from its inception. Managing over four hundred employees and one hundred and fifty vehicles; and
WHEREAS, Mr. Lonie, in conjunction with the Housing Authority, the Redevelopment Authority and many private developers has overseen the development of over one thousand units of market rate, mixed use and affordable housing; and
WHEREAS, As the Streets Department representative to the Philadelphia Industrial Corporation's Developer Services Committee Mr. Lonie has fostered almost two billion dollars in industrial and commercial development within the City of Philadelphia; now therefore
RESOLVED, BY THE COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF PHILADELPHIA, That we hereby honor Paul N. Lonie for his contributions to this Council and to the Citizens of the City of Philadelphia, and wish him a retirement filled with happiness good health and God's blessings.
FURTHER RESOLVED, That an Engrossed copy of this resolution be presented to Paul N. Lonie as evidence of the sincere sentiments of this legislative body.
