Also naming that part of 54th Street from Lancaster Avenue to Lansdowne Avenue as “Resurrection Boulevard.”

WHEREAS, Resurrection Baptist Church was established in 1917 and was originally located at 12th Street and Girard Avenue; and
 
WHEREAS, In 1961, the parish moved to its current location at 54th Street and Lansdowne Avenue; and
 
WHEREAS, For the past 85 years, Resurrection Baptist Church has been a dedicated and strong asset to the community providing evangelical outreach, social services and community development support; and
 
WHEREAS, The congregation and parish work to fulfill the community's basic needs by participating in the Walk Against Hunger, operating a soup kitchen and organizing a clothing outreach program; and
 
WHEREAS, Resurrection Baptist Church also works to fulfill the community's educational needs through the adoption of the Heston Elementary School, the provision of a literacy and tutorial program, and sponsorship of a college scholarship program; and
 
WHEREAS, The Church works to improve the vitality of the community with its non-profit community development center; and
 
WHEREAS, Resurrection Baptist Church works to address the spiritual needs of the neighborhood by offering Vacation Bible School and providing an Evangelism Outreach Ministry; now therefore
 
RESOLVED, BY THE COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF PHILADELPHIA, That the part of 54th Street from Lancaster Avenue to Lansdowne Avenue shall also be known as “Resurrection Boulevard.”
 
FURTHER RESOLVED, That an Engrossed copy of this resolution be presented to Reverend Jerome H. Scott, Sr., pastor of Resurrection Baptist Church, as a symbol of this legislative's body recognition and appreciation of the 85 years of dedicated service provided by Resurrection Baptist Church.
