Honoring the life and legacy of music legend and Philadelphia native, Frankie Beverly, on the occasion of his passing.

WHEREAS, Frankie Beverly was born Howard Beverly on December 6th, 1946, and was raised in the East Germantown Section of Philadelphia. Frankie Beverly was deeply influenced by gospel music where he sang in his local church and was showcased as a soloist as a child; and
WHEREAS, While attending Germantown High School, Beverly formed The Blenders, an a cappella doo-wop group. Following the group's dissolution, he founded The Butlers, which later became known as Frankie Beverly and The Butlers, recording with them in 1963. The group's talent was soon recognized by producer Kenny Gamble, who facilitated further recordings; and
WHEREAS, In 1971 Frankie Beverly and the Butlers moved to the West Coast in hopes of finding success. While in the West Coast the group caught the eye of Marvin Gaye who made them his opening act and convinced Frankie Beverly to change the name of the group to Frankie and Maze. This pivotal change marked the beginning of a significant career; and
WHEREAS, Signing with Capitol Records in 1976, Frankie Beverly and Maze released their debut studio album, "Maze Featuring Frankie Beverly," in 1977, establishing themselves as influential figures in music; and
WHEREAS, The soulful music of Frankie Beverly and Maze, with hits like "Before I Let Go," "Joy and Pain," and "Happy Feelins," became anthems in the Black community, frequently associated with celebrations and family gatherings; and
WHEREAS, Beyonc?'s 2019 cover of "Before I Let Go" on her live album "Homecoming" served as a tribute to Beverly and Maze, ensuring their music's enduring legacy for future generations; and
