Honoring, recognizing and always remembering the men and women who have served in our armed forces and have never returned and those that paid the ultimate price for the freedoms and security that we as a nation enjoy; and authorizing the placing of “One Empty Seat” the POW/MIA National Chair of honor in Philadelphia City Hall as a solemn reminder of all of those that serve.

WHEREAS, The American way of life and the ideals that our country was founded on are to most around the world a beacon of hope and an inspiration to others; and
WHEREAS, Our freedoms are not free and sometimes in defense of these freedoms and our way of life conflicts arise. Those who have been called to serve take up arms in defense of our nation or the defense of those less fortunate and oppressed; and
WHEREAS, As a result of these wars and conflicts over 91,000 American service members have gone missing or are unaccounted for from the wars and conflicts that the United States has been involved in since World War 1; and
WHEREAS, Philadelphia City Council is honored to join the growing list of places that have installed a POW/MIA Empty Chair as a constant reminder of those that have gone missing and those that never came home; now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED, BY THE COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF PHILADELPHIA, That we authorize the placing of “One Empty Seat” the POW/MIA National Chair of Honor in Philadelphia City Hall as a solemn reminder of all of those that serve.
FURTHER RESOLVED, That an Engrossed copy of this resolution be presented City Council’s Office of Veteran’s Affairs as evidence of the sincere sentiments of this legislative body.
