Honoring Alexandra Scott and encouraging all citizens of Philadelphia to contribute to the Alex's Lemonade Stand Fund and other pediatric cancer research programs.

WHEREAS, Cancer is the leading cause of death by disease in children between the ages of 1 and 14; and
WHEREAS, More then 45 children are diagnosed with cancer in the United States each day; and
WHEREAS, Eight-year old Alexandra Scott was diagnosed with neuroblastoma, an aggressive childhood cancer, two days before her first birthday; and
WHEREAS, In July 2000, at the age of four, Alexandra opened her first lemonade stand to raise money for pediatric cancer research, and she has held a lemonade stand in her front yard every year since; and
WHEREAS, Since 2000. Alexandra has raised more then $190,000 for the Children's Hospital of Philadelphia and a half dozen other pediatric cancer causes throughout the country; and
WHEREAS, Alexandra's story has inspired and touched the heart of the country and has garnered national and international attention; and
WHEREAS, On June 12, 2004, more then 75 communities in every state across the country hosted an Alex's Lemonade Stand to support Alex in her fight to find a cure for childhood cancers; and
WHEREAS, Alexandra Scott has taught us all that with courage and determination that a disease may effect us physically but it can never deter our spirit and can never take away the compassion of an eight-year old little girl; now therefore
RESOLVED, BY THE COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF PHILADELPHIA, That we hereby honor Alexandra Scott and encouraging all citizens of Philadelphia to contribute to the Alex's Lemonade Stand Fund and other pediatric cancer research programs.
