Recognizing and honoring the work of Philadelphia Cares to bring attention and rally people to alleviate poverty during Anti-Poverty Action Week designated February 16 through February 22, 2003.

WHEREAS, Philadelphia Cares is a catalyst for creating a corps of engaged citizens by designing and managing volunteer opportunities that meet the needs of individuals, families and community organizations; and
WHEREAS, Philadelphia Cares, in honor of Anti-Poverty Action Week and in partnership with Philadelphia Higher Education Network for Neighborhood Development will present workshops focused on poverty issues such as the working poor, welfare reform and the racial wealth divide; and
WHEREAS, Philadelphia Cares is committed to empowering individuals to act as citizens and realize their ability to contribute to the community in meaningful ways; and
WHEREAS, Philadelphia Cares' mission is to mobilize people to address the critical social, educational and environmental needs of the Greater Philadelphia region through volunteer action; now therefore
RESOLVED, BY THE COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF PHILADELPHIA, That we hereby congratulate Philadelphia Cares and the Philadelphia Higher Education Network for Neighborhood Development on its energetic campaign to alleviate poverty.
FURTHER RESOLVED, That an Engrossed copy of this resolution be presented to representatives of Philadelphia Cares as an expression of the gratitude and sincere respect of this legislative body.
