Recognizing October as Children’s Health Month in the City of Philadelphia and affirming the City’s commitment to children’s overall well-being.

WHEREAS, October is Children’s Health Month, and Philadelphia uses this time to put kids first at home and in school, and in the places that families count on every day: child care rooms, branch libraries, playgrounds, and recreation centers; and
WHEREAS, Children are still growing, so their surroundings play a significant role. What they breathe and drink can show up the same day in how they sleep, how they learn, and how they feel; and
WHEREAS, Every child in this city should step into a classroom with natural ventilation, fill a bottle at a water fountain with clean water, and come back to a steady, caring household, free of peeling paint and damp corners, grounded by trusted adults, and when help is needed linked to child-welfare supports that keep kids safe and families stable and together; and
WHEREAS, Keeping children healthy should be simple and straightforward: a checkup kept, a vaccine on schedule, a classroom that airs out after a rainy morning, a hot lunch that carries a student through the afternoon, a roof that holds through winter, and help that is easy to reach when a child needs to talk to someone; and
WHEREAS, In October the City, the School District, clinicians, and neighborhood groups line up their efforts so families get what they need and children can sleep well, focus in class, and grow strong; now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED, BY THE COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF PHILADELPHIA, That Council recognizes October as Children’s Health Month and affirms that every child deserves a healthy place to live and learn, and the steady, practical help to grow up safe and strong.
