WHEREAS, By Act of Congress of the United States dated July 2, 1964, the Civil Rights Act of 1964 was adopted banning discrimination because of a person's color, race, national origin, religion or sex; and
WHEREAS, By Act of Congress of the United States dated December 6, 1865, the 13th Amendment of the Constitution of the United States was adopted abolishing slavery; and
WHEREAS, By Act of Congress of the United States dated July 9, 1868, the 14th Amendment of the Constitution of the United States was adopted giving all persons born or naturalized in the United States the right to due process and equal protection under the law; and
WHEREAS, The National League of Cities and the Pennsylvania League of Cities and Municipalities have, by resolution, declared racism unjust and have formally advocated for equal rights and freedom for all people regardless of race, religion or gender; now therefore
RESOLVED, BY THE COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF PHILADELPHIA, That we hereby support the Resolution of the National League of Cities and the Pennsylvania League of Cities and Municipalities, reaffirming their commitment to undo racism and ensure equality and freedom for all people.
