Honoring the 75th Anniversary of Saint Timothy Parish.

WHEREAS, Saint Timothy Parish was established on October 16, 1928 by His Eminence, Dennis Cardinal Dougherty, the eighth bishop of Philadelphia; and
WHEREAS, The first Mass was celebrated in a storefront at Barnett and Sackett Streets less than a month later, on November 18, 1928; and
WHEREAS, A site on Levick Street, bounded by Hawthorne and Battersby Streets was selected for the parish complex and a combined church and school was solemnly blessed on September 14, 1930; and
WHEREAS, The appointment of a founding pastor was of the utmost importance to Cardinal Dougherty, since the pastor chosen would mold the parish and set its' tone and whose influence would remain in the minds and hearts of the congregation; and
WHEREAS, The Reverend Thomas Francis Brady was appointed as pastor and served as the spiritual leader of Saint Timothy Parish for 28 years until his death in 1956; and
WHEREAS, During the first 22 years of Saint Timothy's existence, a convent for the Sisters of St. Joseph was dedicated, the rectory was opened and both the lower and upper churches were consecrated; and
WHEREAS, Saint Timothy Parish has been extremely blessed in having been served by a series of dedicated and gifted pastors, including Msgr. Joseph M. Corr, Msgr. Vincent L. Bums, Msgr. Joseph J. McGlinn, Msgr. Walter J. Corrigan, Msgr. Michael J. Carroll, Rev. Anthony W. Dieckhaus and Rev. Kevin C. Lawrence; now therefore
RESOLVED, BY THE COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF PHILADELPHIA, That we hereby honor and commend Saint Timothy Parish on its 75th Anniversary with the hope of a renewed commitment to the future.
