Honoring and congratulating the Woodmere Art Museum upon celebrating its 60th Anniversary.

WHEREAS, Woodmere Art Museum is a community based cultural institution dedicated to educating and serving the public through the arts and has collected, conserved, interpreted, and exhibited Philadelphia's artistic legacy for 60 years; and
WHEREAS, Woodmere Art Museum holds one of the largest collections anywhere of works by local artists Violet Oakley, Robert Riggs, and Herbert Pullinger and is known as “the artists' museum,” exhibiting the work of over 900 artists throughout the region annually; and
 
WHEREAS, Woodmere Art Museum was an early champion of the Pennsylvania Impressionists by providing the artists with a steady stream of exhibitions which offer new insights on art movements of the past and fresh views of the current art scene; and
 
WHEREAS, Woodmere Art Museum's exhibits and programs offer life-long learning and its educational programs have been purposely designed to touch the lives of as broad a spectrum of Philadelphia youngsters as possible. Focusing on outreach to underserved audiences; the potential for collaborative ventures; providing a forum for open communication about contemporary issues; and building an appreciation of the visual arts; and
 
WHEREAS, Woodmere Art Museum's Helen Millard Children's Gallery is the only exhibition space locally to be dedicated entirely to children's art; and
 
WHEREAS, Woodmere Art Museum is one of only 11 Philadelphia institutions to have achieved accreditation from the American Association of Museums and the Museum constantly works to protect Philadelphia's natural and cultural heritage; now therefore
 
RESOLVED, THAT THE COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF PHILADELPHIA, Hereby honor and congratulate the Woodmere Art Museum upon celebrating its 60th Anniversary.
