Congratulating the Varsity Football Team of Saint Joseph's Preparatory School for winning the 2003 Philadelphia Catholic League Red Division Championship.

WHEREAS, In a thrilling finale to an unforgettable season, St. Joe's Prep's Varsity Football Team handily defeated a stubborn Cardinal O'Hara team 45-7 in a classic match up while an energetic and vigorous horde of Hawks fans looked on; and
WHEREAS, This overwhelming victory is particularly gratifying because it is the fourteenth title in school history and the third consecutive Catholic League Red Division title in as many years; and
WHEREAS, Prep varsity football was undefeated in the Catholic League for a second straight year, under the leadership and tutelage of Head Coach Gil Brooks; and
WHEREAS, This win extended the Prep football team's unbeaten streak to an unprecedented thirty five games, a Catholic League and City of Philadelphia best; and
WHEREAS, This victory marked a milestone for Head Coach Gil Brooks, in that it was his 105th victory as head coach of St. Joe's Prep's Varsity Football Team in twelve years; now therefore
RESOLVED, BY THE COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF PHILADELPHIA, That we hereby honor the Saint Joseph's Prep Varsity Football Team for winning the 2003 Philadelphia Catholic League Red Division Championship.
FURTHER RESOLVED, That an Engrossed copy of this resolution be presented to St. Joseph's Prep Varsity Football Team Head Coach Gil Brooks, further evidencing the sincere sentiments of this legislative body.
