Urging the Philadelphia Museum of Art to remain neutral in regards to the efforts of their security guards to form a collective bargaining unit.
Body
WHEREAS, With the support of Jobs With Justice, the 130 security guards at the Philadelphia Museum of Art have filed to form a union and will hold a vote on October 9th, 2009; and
 
WHEREAS, The Philadelphia Museum of Art has publicly stated that they will remain neutral and allow the security guards to decide for themselves whether to form a collective bargaining unit; and
 
WHEREAS, The Philadelphia Museum of Art is a publicly funded agency which operates on City land, and it is vital that all City supported entities respect the rights of their workers to hold free and fair union ballots; now therefore, be it
 
RESOLVED THAT, The Philadelphia City Council hereby applauds the Philadelphia Museum of Art for publicly stating that in will remain neutral in this labor dispute between its security guards and Allied Barton. We urge the Philadelphia Museum of Art to continue to remain neutral and to do everything it its power to ensure that its workers right to free and fair union ballot is respected.
