WHEREAS, On February 5, 1995, Trayvon Benjamin Martin was born to Sybrina Fulton and Tracy Martin; and

WHEREAS, Trayvon Martin was a junior at Dr. Michael M. Krop Senior High School in Miami, Florida where he was interested in aviation; and

WHEREAS, On February 26, 2012, Trayvon Martin visited his father and step mother in Sanford, Florida at the Retreat at Twin Lakes townhome complex, to watch the NBA All Star Game; and

WHEREAS, An unarmed Trayvon Martin walked to a nearby 7 Eleven to purchase a pack of Skittles and an iced tea; and

WHEREAS, As he walked back from 7 Eleven he was shot and killed by neighborhood watch volunteer, George Zimmerman, who has admitted to shooting Trayvon Martin; and

WHEREAS, Since his tragic death, Trayvon Martin's parents, attorneys, civil rights leaders, community and civic groups have advocated for justice in the shooting death of Trayvon Martin; and

WHEREAS, There are multiple on going investigations by the Federal Bureau of Investigation, the Justice Department, the Florida Department of Law Enforcement, the Florida Attorney General and a Seminole County Grand Jury; and

WHEREAS, Since the untimely death of Trayvon Martin, there have been marches and protests around the United States of America including marches from 30th Street Station to Love Park in Philadelphia; and

WHEREAS, The City Council of Philadelphia stands in solidarity with City Councils across the United States of America including Sanford, FL, New York City, NY and Birmingham, AL to call for honesty and integrity in ongoing investigations related to the case; now, therefore, be it

RESOLVED, BY THE COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF PHILADELPHIA, That we hereby call for justice in the shooting death of Trayvon Martin and stand in solidarity and support of the family of Trayvon Martin.
