WHEREAS, Mrs. Martha Green has lived on the 6000 block of Locust Street for more than 60 years. Throughout this time she has demonstrated a tireless love and compassion that extends beyond her neighbors to the surrounding community; and

WHEREAS, Mrs. Green is the loving mother of eight children, whose affection has often extended to other children in her community, especially once she became a grandmother. During the time her grandchildren attended Hamilton Elementary School, Mrs. Green could be found volunteering there multiple days a week, offering a warm smile and a listening ear; and

WHEREAS, For years, Mrs. Green has shown a deep care and concern for West Philly's kids, coordinating annual summer day trips to nearby amusement parks, providing kids and their families in West Philadelphia a day of fun and community; and

WHEREAS, In addition to these summer trips, Mrs. Green brought joy to the neighborhood every year at the annual Christmas party at the Cobbs Creek Recreation Center, ensuring that every child who attended had gifts for Christmas; and

WHEREAS, Mrs. Green is known for keeping a watchful eye over her block, having served as Block Captain of the 6000 block of Locust Street for over 30 years and raising funds for the Cobbs Creek Town Watch. During this time, she was able to advocate for the beautification of her block, leading to the planting of trees offered by the City Tree Program; and

WHEREAS, Mrs. Green also took a leadership role with the West and Southwest divisions of the Concerned Block Captains to help decrease violence in her neighborhood, which included taking an active role in regular meetings with the 18th Police District and HUP Cedar Campus; and
