Title
Authorizing the City Council Committee on Law and Government to investigate the reasons for, and causes of, the increased costs of residential construction in the City of Philadelphia and to explore strategies and initiatives which would encourage developers to build new housing and restore the existing housing stock in the City.
Body
      WHEREAS, There has been a dearth of residential construction in the City, in recent years; and
 
      WHEREAS, The construction of new housing with modern amenities and the restoration of existing housing stock is likely to attract more residents to the City; and
 
      WHEREAS, The construction of new housing and the renovation of existing housing leads to the stabilization of communities; and
 
      WHEREAS, It is in the best interest of the City to explore ways to encourage residential development; now therefore
 
      RESOLVED, THAT THE COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF PHILADELPHIA, Hereby authorizes the City Council Committee on Law and Government to investigate the reasons for, and causes of, the increased costs of residential construction in the City of Philadelphia, and to explore strategies and initiatives which would encourage developers to build new housing and restore the existing housing stock in the City; and authorizing the Chairperson of the Committee, in furtherance of such investigation, to issue such subpoenas as may be necessary or appropriate to compel the attendance of witnesses and the production of documents to the full extent authorized under Section 2-401 of the Home Rule Charter.
